Quarry

Since stones are always very much subject to fashion trends in color and structure, new work stones are constantly being sought and found all over the world. The prerequisite is always the economic and ecological aspect, such as marketability and extractability, as well as technical properties.

The mining method depends on the stone present there:
  • Monolithic stones, such as real granites, can be crushed in large benches and processed by machine.
  • Layered rocks such as many quartzites or some limestones are split materials and are quarried by machine with hammers or partly still by hand and these are marketed as polygonal slabs or further processed into various formats.
Most rocks are mined above ground. However, there are exceptions, for example, in Italy - Carrara. Here the rocks are mined underground.
Limestones and resulting marble and dolomite are formed by precipitation and the combination of calcium to calcium carbonate, in water.
The huge benches have been partly lifted up to 90 ° by the tectonics of the continental plates.
When quarrying, one follows the rock and thus, for example, deep quarry pits can be found in Portugal.
Also in the quarrying area around Carrara - Italy the quarries are therefore located on high mountains.
After the economic exploitation, the renaturation to rediscover and reshape the habitats of flora and fauna is the most important and obligatory task of the industry to preserve a livable world for future generations.
